Preparing.
An independent tribute to Steve Jobs (1955–2011), made for October 5, the anniversary of his death. It is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by Apple Inc.
Steve Jobs reading “The Crazy Ones,” recorded in 1997 for Apple’s “Think different” campaign. The agency persuaded him to record it, but he chose the version narrated by Richard Dreyfuss for broadcast; his own reading became widely known only after his death in 2011. Here his voice is separated from the original music and otherwise left untouched: every phrase, pause and breath is his.
“The Crazy Ones,” written for Apple by TBWA\Chiat\Day, 1997, read here by Steve Jobs in full and unedited.
Albert Einstein, Bob Dylan, Martin Luther King Jr., John Lennon, Buckminster Fuller, Muhammad Ali, Maria Callas, Mahatma Gandhi, Amelia Earhart, Alfred Hitchcock, Jim Henson, Pablo Picasso, and Steve Jobs.
Amelia Earhart disappeared over the Pacific in 1937; she was declared legally dead in 1939.
← and → move between the people. Space or K pauses, M turns the sound off or on, and R watches again at the end. Each name links to the person’s Wikipedia page.
A tribute by Eyad Nour. Animation, sound design and code by Claude Opus 5.5 (Anthropic). Original music and sound made with ElevenLabs. Set in EB Garamond.
